Abeokuta is entering the final stretch of preparations ahead of the first-ever West African Para Games for zones A and B, set to take place from November 26 to December 4. The National Sports Commission has confirmed that all operational plans for the event are proceeding smoothly.

The Games will welcome para athletes from across the region to Ogun State, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s growing role in para sports development. Officials say the event underscores President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to positioning Nigeria as a top destination for major international sporting competitions, aligning with the country’s renewed sports economy initiative.

Key arrangements—including accommodation, transportation, venue readiness, medical services, accreditation, media operations, security, volunteer mobilisation, and classification facilities—have reportedly reached advanced stages. The Local Organising Committee emphasized that Abeokuta is ready to host a competition that will showcase athletic excellence while highlighting the culture and hospitality of Ogun State.

Sunday Odebode, president of the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria, praised the dedication and coordination of the National Sports Commission, calling the Games “a new dawn for para sports in West Africa.” He expressed confidence that Nigeria will set a strong standard for future editions, noting that both organisers and athletes are prepared for what promises to be a historic opening day. Odebode added that the event will strengthen regional collaboration and broaden competitive opportunities for para athletes across Africa.
