Rwanda Energy Group (REG) guard Promise Amukamara has credited her recent AfroBasket experience for helping the team secure a convincing 81–53 win over Friend’s Basketball Association of Ivory Coast in the Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA) in Cairo on Tuesday.

After REG’s earlier heavy loss to Al Ahly, Amukamara said the squad showed great composure and defensive intensity, especially in taking care of the ball and forcing turnovers that swung the momentum in their favour. The performance improved REG’s record in Group A to 2–1, keeping them on track for a spot in the quarter-finals.

The Nigerian international, who joined the Rwandan side late, explained that her time at AfroBasket helped her better understand her teammates’ tendencies, boosting her influence on the court. She also acknowledged moments of complacency in the third quarter, which the team quickly corrected to finish strongly.

REG’s victory featured standout efforts from Kayana Traylor, who set the 2025 WBLA scoring mark with 34 points, and Kristina King, who recorded a double‑double with 17 points and 19 rebounds, as the champions look to build momentum toward the knockout stages.
