Dr. Nonye Soludo, wife of the Governor of Anambra State, has officially inaugurated the second edition of the Nonye Soludo Volleyball Competition in Awka, aimed at empowering youths and promoting sports development.
Speaking at the opening ceremony at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, the Anambra First Lady said the tournament would foster teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition among young girls across the state. This year’s event has grown significantly, with teams from 17 local government areas participating, compared to just five at the inaugural competition.
Dr. Soludo described sports as a vital tool for character building, social inclusion, and talent discovery, encouraging participants to show resilience and sportsmanship throughout the four‑day event.
Officials, including the Chairman of the Anambra State Sports Development Commission and the state Commissioner for Health, praised the initiative as a positive step toward youth engagement and the growth of volleyball in the region.
