Okolie Says Fighting in Lagos Is a Dream Come True Ahead of Historic Homecoming Bout

British‑Nigerian heavyweight contender Lawrence Okolie says competing in Lagos holds profound personal significance as he gears up for his first professional fight on African soil, headlining the Chaos in the Ring II boxing event later this month.

Okolie, currently the WBC’s top‑ranked heavyweight contender and a former two‑weight world champion, will face Ghanaian veteran Ebenezer Tetteh in the main event scheduled for December 21 at the Detty December Festival Grounds in Lagos.

“Fighting in Lagos means everything to me,” the 33‑year‑old said, adding that the bout represents more than just another fight — it’s a chance to honour his family’s roots and inspire fans in Africa.

The event, part of Nigeria’s festive boxing calendar, features a stacked undercard and is expected to draw global attention, reinforcing the country’s growing role in hosting major sports spectacles.

Okolie’s appearance in Lagos is being promoted as a landmark moment for the sport on the continent, with organisers and boxing enthusiasts alike viewing the card as a statement that Africa is ready to host world‑class boxing events.
