Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has advised married couples to handle misunderstandings amicably and resolve issues through open and sincere dialogue.

Governor Otti gave the advice on Sunday during the wedding ceremony of Mr. Prosper Apugo, son of Prince B.B. Apugo, and his bride, Yinka, held at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia.

He cautioned the newlyweds against allowing third parties to interfere in their marriage, noting that while they may receive advice from different quarters, wisdom and communication will sustain their union.

“We have no doubt that you will make a success of this union. Marriage is a beautiful thing. Sister Yinka, the success of this marriage lies greatly in your hands. Study your husband and understand him. The Bible says the husband is the head of the family, but he also has a responsibility to love his wife,” Otti said.

He encouraged the couple to freely discuss their concerns with each other instead of harboring grievances, stressing that peaceful communication, mutual respect, and love would ensure a lasting and happy marriage.

“Whenever you disagree, sit down and resolve it. Don’t keep things in your heart. Call him, talk about it, and settle it amicably. Once you do this and shut out third parties, your marriage will succeed,” he added.

Governor Otti also reminded the couple not to allow the glamour of the wedding ceremony to overshadow the friendship that brought them together.

“What is most important is the friendship you share. Let that friendship remain the bond that keeps you together,” he advised.

The Governor congratulated the couple and expressed confidence in their ability to build a successful home.

Responding on behalf of the couple, the groom, Mr. Prosper Apugo, thanked Governor Otti and other guests for honoring their invitation and pledged to uphold the values expected of him in marriage.

The event, chaired by Chief Felix Kalu, was attended by top dignitaries including the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Augustine Meregini, senior government officials, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Major General Fadairo, and Brigade Commander 14 Brigade Ohafia, Brigadier General H.N., among others.
