Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna has ended the 2025 season as the highest-ranked table tennis player in Africa, according to the final yearly standings released by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).

The 37-year-old Nigerian, who has held the continent’s top position throughout most of the year, ended the season ranked 28th in the world with 1,065 points — making him the only African player to surpass the 1,000-point mark in the men’s rankings.

Egypt’s Omar Assar trails as the second-best African player, positioned 32nd globally in the latest standings.

Aruna’s ranking was bolstered by consistent performances on the international circuit, including a finalist finish at the ITTF African Cup in Tunis, a semi-final run at the WTT Star Contender in Doha, and reaching the last 16 at the World Table Tennis Championships.

Despite fierce competition from Asia and Europe, Aruna’s durability and success throughout 2025 underscore his status as one of Africa’s most accomplished table tennis athletes.
