Anthony Joshua’s Driver Case Deferred to January 20 by Court

The driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the fatal road accident that killed two members of heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua’s team was arraigned in a Sagamu Magistrate Court on Friday. The court has adjourned the matter to January 20, 2026 to allow for further legal proceedings.

The defendant, 46‑year‑old Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, faces several charges including dangerous and reckless driving, negligent driving, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence — accusations stemming from the crash that occurred on the Lagos‑Ibadan Expressway, which also left Joshua with minor injuries.

Preliminary investigations suggest the Lexus collided with a stationary truck after an alleged overspeeding and overtaking manoeuvre. Kayode was granted ₦5 million bail with two sureties, but remains in custody pending fulfillment of the bail conditions.

Joshua, who was travelling with the group at the time, was discharged from hospital after treatment and continues his recovery while authorities prepare for the next court session.
