Manchester United Sack Ruben Amorim After Poor Run of Results

Manchester United have dismissed head coach Ruben Amorim following a disappointing spell in charge of the club.

Amorim’s final match was Sunday’s 1–1 draw against Leeds United, a result that leaves United sixth in the Premier League table. The 40-year-old recorded the lowest win percentage of any United manager since the Sir Alex Ferguson era, securing just 24 victories in 63 games.

Darren Fletcher, currently in charge of the club’s Under-18s, is expected to take over on an interim basis until the end of the season. United’s next fixture is a Premier League clash against Burnley on Wednesday.

Amorim had hinted at tension with the club’s hierarchy after Sunday’s match, insisting he was employed as a “manager” rather than merely a “head coach” and stating he would continue his duties until the club chose to replace him.

In an official statement, Manchester United confirmed:
“Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United. He was appointed in November 2024 and guided the team to the UEFA Europa League final in Bilbao in May.”
