Organisers have announced that Lagos is ready to host a high‑stakes Davis Cup World Group II tie between Nigeria and Uzbekistan, scheduled for February 7–8, 2026. The Nigeria Tennis Federation and the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club confirmed that all technical, security, and logistical arrangements are in place for the international men’s team tennis fixture.

At a joint media briefing, the President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, Victor Ochei, described the hosting rights as a major milestone reflecting Nigeria’s growing profile in global tennis. He said the event demonstrates confidence in the country’s organisational capabilities, infrastructure, and security arrangements.

The Davis Cup, the world’s premier international men’s team tennis competition, will feature five matches — four singles and one doubles — across the two days of competition. Practice courts will open on February 2 to give both teams adequate preparation time.

Officials say hosting the tie is expected to boost sports tourism, generate economic activity, and support youth development, while reinforcing Nigeria’s reputation as a destination for major global sporting events. A 15‑member Central Planning Committee has been established to work with the International Tennis Federation, government agencies, and the host club to ensure a successful event.

Representatives from the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club also assured that the historic venue — one of Africa’s premier tennis facilities — is fully prepared to welcome players and spectators for what promises to be a world‑class competition.
