Daniel Laryea to Officiate High‑Profile Nigeria vs Morocco AFCON Semi‑Final

Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Ayi Laryea has been selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to oversee the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 semi-final clash between Nigeria and Morocco. The match is scheduled for Wednesday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Laryea, one of Africa’s most seasoned referees, will be assisted by Zakhele Siwela from South Africa and Souru Phatsoane from Lesotho. Arsénio Maringule of Mozambique will serve as the third assistant, while Samuel Uwikunda from Rwanda takes the role of fourth official.

The match will also feature the use of VAR technology, with Abongile Tom from South Africa appointed as the main Video Assistant Referee, assisted by Haythem Guirat of Tunisia and Stephen Onyango Yiembe from Kenya. Lidya Tafesse Abebe of Ethiopia will act as referee assessor for the game.

CAF’s appointment of Laryea highlights their confidence in his ability to manage high-pressure matches. The semi-final between these two football powerhouses is expected to be closely contested, with both teams aiming to secure a place in the AFCON final.
