Atlético Madrid has confirmed that Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has arrived in the Spanish capital to undergo a medical ahead of completing his transfer from Italian side Atalanta.
The La Liga club made the announcement on its official website after reaching an agreement with Atalanta for the 28-year-old Nigerian international.
“The Nigerian forward is already in Madrid, where he will undergo a medical and will finish formalising his new contract,” Atlético stated.
The transfer is expected to be finalised once Lookman passes his medical tests and signs the long-term contract.
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano earlier revealed that Atlético beat Turkish giants Fenerbahce to secure the deal, which is valued at €35 million plus €5 million in add-ons.
Romano wrote on X: “Ademola Lookman to Atlético Madrid, here we go! Agreement in place on every detail.”
Reports indicate that Lookman has agreed to a contract running until 2031.
Lookman joined Atalanta in August 2022 from RB Leipzig, following a loan spell at Leicester City, and quickly became one of the club’s most influential attacking players.
During his time in Italy, he made 137 appearances, scoring 55 goals and providing 27 assists. In Serie A alone, he recorded 41 goals and 21 assists in 105 matches.
His most memorable moment came in the 2024 UEFA Europa League final, where he scored a historic hat-trick in Atalanta’s 3–0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, ending the German club’s 51-game unbeaten run.
The performance earned him global recognition and helped him clinch the 2024 African Footballer of the Year award, as well as a 14th-place finish in the Ballon d’Or rankings.
Atlético fans are now eagerly awaiting the completion of the transfer, which would see Lookman begin a new chapter in Spain’s top flight.
