The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has launched a six‑week training programme in Asaba, Delta State, to prepare its track and field squad for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

A total of 32 athletes — split evenly between men and women from sprinting, relays, jumping, and throwing events — have arrived at the Stephen Keshi Stadium to begin the first phase of their pre‑Games training.

Coaches and specialists are working to improve technical skills, enhance fitness levels, and build teamwork ahead of the international meet. AFN’s head coach, Solomon Aliyu, and technical director Gabriel Okon are leading the programme, which is a key step toward peak performance in Glasgow.

The camp includes several prominent sprinters and field event competitors, highlighting Nigeria’s commitment to achieving strong results at the Commonwealth Games.

Athletes will undergo rigorous daily sessions, combining technical drills, strength training, and strategic planning to ensure they are fully prepared for competition.
