As Christians mark Ash Wednesday and the start of the Lenten season, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on political leaders and citizens to strengthen efforts toward national cohesion and ensure government policies are effectively implemented.

CAN emphasized that this period of reflection is an opportunity to evaluate the nation’s state and the urgency of translating policies into tangible improvements for ordinary Nigerians, especially amid economic pressures, limited job opportunities, and ongoing security challenges.

The association stressed that Nigeria needs follow-through and accountability from public officials, urging that policies not only be adopted but executed in ways that positively impact citizens’ lives.

In addition to advocating for effective governance, CAN warned against misinformation and social division, encouraging unity across faiths, ethnicities, and communities. They also called on young people to engage in innovation, civic responsibility, and initiatives that drive national development.
