President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former Senator Florence Ita Giwa on her 80th birthday and former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim on his 65th birthday, commending their longstanding contributions to Nigeria’s political development.
In a goodwill message, the President described Ita Giwa as a resilient and courageous leader whose decades of public service have left a lasting impact on the nation’s democratic growth.
Ita Giwa represented Cross River South Senatorial District in the Senate from 1999 to 2003 and earlier served in the House of Representatives between 1992 and 1993. She also held the position of National Republican Convention (NRC) chairman in Delta State during the Third Republic.
Tinubu noted that the former lawmaker, fondly called “Mama Bakassi” for her strong advocacy for the Bakassi people, paved the way for greater female participation in politics and public service. He praised her role in legislative work, policy advocacy, and national political development, while joining her family, friends, and associates in celebrating the milestone.
The President prayed for her continued good health, strength, and fulfilment in the years ahead.
In the same vein, Tinubu extended warm wishes to Chief Anyim Pius Anyim on his 65th birthday, describing him as a steadfast and influential figure in Nigeria’s political landscape since 1998.
He commended Anyim’s tenure as President of the Senate, highlighting his commitment to protecting the integrity of the National Assembly, even in challenging circumstances. The President also acknowledged his service as Secretary to the Government of the Federation, noting his contributions to reforms, national unity, and development.
Describing Anyim as a committed patriot and believer in Nigeria’s potential, Tinubu wished him good health and renewed strength, stressing the need for leaders dedicated to peace, progress, and national advancement.
