Paris Saint‑Germain and Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi has been formally sent to trial in France on charges stemming from a rape allegation made in early 2023.

The decision to refer the case to a criminal court on Tuesday follows a lengthy judicial examination after a 24‑year‑old woman accused Hakimi of sexual assault at his home in Boulogne‑Billancourt, a Paris suburb, after they connected online.

Hakimi has consistently rejected the claims, saying the encounter was consensual and describing the move toward trial as unfair. In a message on social media, he said he is awaiting the proceedings “calmly” and believes the truth will emerge.

No date for the start of the trial has yet been announced, and Hakimi remains presumed innocent until proven guilty under French law.
