FIFA has officially approved the international switch for 24‑year-old goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, making him eligible to play for the Nigeria national football team. This comes just in time for Nigeria’s upcoming international fixtures in March, giving the team more options in goal as preparations intensify.

Okonkwo, who plays in the English Championship for Wrexham United, had previously represented England at youth levels before deciding to commit his senior international career to Nigeria. His clearance ends a lengthy eligibility process and paves the way for his debut with the Super Eagles.

The goalkeeper’s availability is considered a timely boost, especially with Nigeria’s current first-choice keeper without a club. Okonkwo’s inclusion adds depth to the squad and strengthens options between the posts as the team gears up for future competitions.

Born in London to Nigerian parents, Okonkwo rose through the youth ranks at Arsenal before establishing himself at Wrexham, where he has been a regular starter this season.

The Super Eagles are set to open camp later in March and will face Iran and Jordan in a four-nation invitational tournament, providing an ideal stage to test Okonkwo’s abilities at the international level.
