Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has called on the newly elected executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to strictly uphold the party’s constitution and ensure fairness in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking at the conclusion of the APC State Congress in Dutse, Namadi described the exercise as peaceful, transparent and conducted entirely through consensus, in line with the party’s guidelines. He said the process, which began at the ward level, moved through the local government stage and ended at the state level, reflected unity among party members.
According to the governor, the absence of disputes or complaints during the congress demonstrated the maturity and cohesion of the APC in Jigawa. He thanked party leaders, elders and stakeholders, including the Minister of State for Education, serving and former lawmakers, and other supporters who participated in the exercise. He also commended the national delegation that supervised the congress for ensuring a credible process.
Addressing the new executives, Namadi reminded them that their emergence through consensus signified the trust reposed in them by members. He urged them to be just and avoid favoritism in handling party affairs.
“This is a responsibility you have accepted on behalf of the people. Be fair to all members. Injustice is what creates division and conflict within a party,” he said, stressing that strict adherence to the party’s constitution is key to sustaining unity.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected state chairman, Ahmed Garba MK, expressed appreciation to the party and the governor for the confidence placed in him and other officials. He pledged that the new leadership would work diligently to secure victory for the APC in future elections.
Garba noted that Jigawa has one of the largest APC memberships in the country, attributing the growth to Governor Namadi’s inclusive leadership and grassroots mobilization. He added that the party has consistently won governorship elections in the state since its formation in 2014.
Reaffirming party discipline, the chairman warned against dual party membership, stating that individuals claiming allegiance to both the APC and the ADC must choose one, as the party would take firm action against violators.
The congress concluded with renewed assurances from party leaders to maintain unity and strengthen the APC’s dominance in Jigawa State.
