The Nigerian government has announced the suspension of the Christian pilgrimage to Jerusalem and other parts of the Middle East due to increasing geopolitical tensions in the region. The decision was made after a thorough review of the safety risks posed to Nigerian pilgrims amidst ongoing conflicts and instability in several Middle Eastern countries.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the suspension was a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of Nigerian citizens. The Ministry expressed concern over the escalating violence and advised that the pilgrimage be temporarily halted until the situation in the Middle East stabilizes.

Christian associations in Nigeria, including the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), have expressed their understanding of the decision, acknowledging the importance of safeguarding the lives of pilgrims. However, some members of the clergy have called for alternative pilgrimage destinations to be explored, in light of the ongoing unrest in the Middle East.

The government has assured citizens that it will continue to monitor the situation and work closely with international partners to assess when it would be safe for Nigerian pilgrims to resume travel to the Holy Land.
