The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, has called on transport unions and motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations to ensure a safe and crash-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

The appeal was made during a road safety awareness rally held in Abeokuta as part of a nationwide directive to educate road users on safe driving practices during and after the festive period.

As part of the campaign, FRSC officials engaged transport operators and commuters at motor parks, distributed safety materials and used public address systems to reinforce key road safety messages.

Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin—represented by the Deputy Corps Commander and Head of Operations, Samuel Ogundayo, said the initiative was necessary to reduce accidents and protect lives during the celebrations.

He urged motorists and stakeholders to avoid common traffic violations such as speeding, dangerous overtaking, overloading, phone use while driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol or fatigue.

According to him, the campaign aims to ensure that travellers and holidaymakers reach their destinations safely.

In Lagos, the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, assured residents of effective traffic control throughout the festive period.

He commended Muslims for their discipline during Ramadan and encouraged them to extend that same attitude to obeying traffic laws.

Bakare-Oki warned that LASTMA would strictly enforce regulations, adopting a zero-tolerance stance on reckless driving, illegal parking, one-way violations and other offences that threaten public safety or disrupt traffic flow.

He also revealed that a comprehensive traffic management strategy had been activated, with officers deployed to major roads, intersections and high-traffic areas to ensure smooth movement across the state.

Residents were urged to cooperate with traffic officials, remain patient and adhere to road rules, as collective responsibility is vital to maintaining order during the festivities.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Lagos has deployed 2,250 personnel to safeguard critical infrastructure and maintain security during the celebrations.

State Commandant, Adedotun Keshinro, said the deployment is aimed at preventing criminal activities often associated with festive periods.

He added that the command has strengthened its intelligence operations and security strategies to ensure peace before, during and after Eid-el-Fitr.

Keshinro stressed the importance of early and sustained deployment of personnel, noting that the period typically sees increased movement of people into Lagos.

He further assured that efforts are in place to tackle vandalism and other criminal activities that could affect the state’s economy.

Officers have been tasked with securing key locations, including public and private facilities, transport hubs, worship centres, parks and critical infrastructure.

The commandant also urged personnel to remain vigilant, professional and respectful of citizens’ rights while carrying out their duties.
