Brighton & Hove Albion claimed a deserved 2-1 win over Liverpool at the Amex Stadium, dealing a major setback to the visitors’ hopes of finishing in the Premier League top four. Veteran striker Danny Welbeck led the charge with two goals in an impressive performance.

Liverpool’s problems began early when Hugo Ekitike was forced off with an injury just minutes into the match. Brighton took advantage soon after, with Welbeck opening the scoring in the 14th minute, heading home from close range after a defensive lapse.

The visitors responded midway through the first half, as Milos Kerkez capitalised on a mistake at the back to bring Liverpool level. However, Brighton remained the better side and continued to create the more dangerous chances.

Their dominance paid off in the second half when Welbeck struck again, finishing off a well-worked move to restore Brighton’s lead and secure all three points.

The loss marks Liverpool’s 10th league defeat of the season, increasing pressure on manager Arne Slot and complicating their push for a Champions League spot. With rivals gaining ground, the Reds face a tough battle to stay in contention.

For Brighton, the victory underlines their strong form and attacking quality, while Liverpool must quickly rediscover consistency as the season enters a crucial stage.
