The Lagos State Football Association has unveiled a new trophy inspired by the traditional Eyo festival ahead of the 2026 Lagos State Challenge Cup. The announcement was made during the draw ceremony at the Indoor Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere, marking the official start of this year’s grassroots football competition.
The trophy, a gift from 54Footballx, was presented by local traditional rulers, including the Oba of Isheri-Olofin and the Olu-iwa of Apapa. Organizers describe it as a celebration of Lagos’ cultural heritage, aiming to add prestige and identity to the state’s most prominent football tournament.
Hajji Liameed Gafar, chairman of the Lagos FA, highlighted that the competition goes beyond football, serving as a platform to unite communities, showcase talent, and promote the state’s culture. The 2026 edition will feature 77 teams, enhanced prize incentives, match balls, and global live streaming to elevate the tournament experience.
The event also brought together former international players, club owners, referees, and media representatives, all pledging continued support for grassroots football development in Lagos.
