World Cup Ticket Hikes Spark Legal Action Against FIFA

Supporter groups across Europe have taken legal action against FIFA, challenging the steep prices of tickets for the upcoming men’s World Cup. They argue that the high costs make attending matches unaffordable for ordinary fans and demand that the pricing system be reviewed.

The groups claim that ticket prices, which increase further under variable pricing models, unfairly exclude loyal supporters and favor wealthier spectators. They say the current system risks turning the tournament into an event only for those who can afford premium rates.

Critics also point out that while hosting and travel expenses may justify some price increases, the scale of the hikes is excessive. Some tickets for key matches have reached several thousand dollars, fueling frustration among fans.

The lawsuit highlights growing dissatisfaction with FIFA’s ticketing approach, as fan organisations push for more accessible pricing to ensure that attending football’s premier tournament remains possible for everyday supporters.
