The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) will continue under the leadership of Ahmadu Musa Kida until October 2026, following a decision by FIBA to prevent any modifications to the federation’s rules ahead of upcoming elections.
This ruling ends months of uncertainty, during which some stakeholders had pushed for early changes to the NBBF constitution and leadership. FIBA’s decision ensures that the existing board remains fully recognized and in charge until the scheduled election window between late September and mid-October 2026.
Officials say the move aims to maintain stability in Nigerian basketball and allow for an orderly preparation of both men’s and women’s national teams for international competitions.
The focus now shifts to organizing the elections under the current statutes, giving all prospective candidates a clear and fair framework to contest leadership positions.
This development is seen as a boost for continuity in the administration of Nigerian basketball, providing the federation with a stable path toward the next election cycle.
