Nigeria’s Super Eagles have kicked off their training camp in Turkey ahead of upcoming international friendlies, but the squad has already faced a challenge with the injury withdrawal of defender Calvin Bassey. The 24-year-old pulled out due to a back issue, leaving the coaching staff to adjust their defensive plans.

Bassey has been a key figure in the national team’s defense, and his absence comes at a critical time as the team gears up for matches against Iran and Jordan. The coaching team confirmed that the decision was made on medical advice to avoid worsening the injury.

Despite this setback, the camp began smoothly with an initial group of 15 players reporting for training. The squad focused on fitness drills, tactical sessions, and team cohesion exercises to prepare for the two friendly matches. The absence of Bassey has prompted the coaching staff to experiment with alternative defensive line-ups during the training sessions.

Later arrivals, including senior players and team leaders, joined the camp to complete the squad. Their presence added experience and leadership to the group, helping to maintain morale and ensure that the team’s preparations stayed on track despite the early disruption.

The coaching staff emphasized that while Bassey’s injury is unfortunate, the squad remains committed to building cohesion and sharpening tactics. Focus is now on achieving positive results in the upcoming friendlies and using the camp as an opportunity to integrate younger talents into the national setup.
