The interim leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), headed by former Senate President David Mark, convened a strategic meeting in Abuja on Wednesday with all 37 state party chairmen, including that of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The high-level gathering comes amid widespread political speculation regarding internal rifts within the party.
The closed-door meeting aimed to address these concerns, counter alleged misinformation, and strengthen backing for the ADC’s ongoing coalition and reorganisation drive. Speaking to journalists after the session, party spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi emphasized that the leadership remains committed to an inclusive and transparent process.
“We brought the chairmen together to reassure them—there’s no plot to sideline anyone. We’re here to correct the false narratives and reaffirm our partnership in building a stronger ADC,” Abdullahi said.
He added that the meeting had restored confidence across the states, noting, “The chairmen are leaving Abuja today with renewed assurance of their vital role in the party’s future.”
Responding to criticism from former presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu—who questioned the legitimacy of the coalition process and the emergence of the new leadership—Abdullahi dismissed the claims, asserting that the interim leadership is on firm legal ground.
“A presidential candidate is not a party officer. If anyone believes there’s been a constitutional breach, they’re welcome to challenge it. So far, no member has done so,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, Hon. Kingsley Ogga, Chairman of the ADC Forum of State Chairmen and Kogi State Chairman, expressed the group’s unanimous support for Senator Mark’s interim leadership and the party’s coalition agenda.
