Former Nigerian international and left-footed winger, Allen Okwuchukwu Waobikeze, popularly known as ‘Babaoo’, has sadly passed away. The news of his death comes just days after the country mourned the loss of another football legend, former Super Eagles captain and goalkeeper, Peter Rufai. Waobikeze was well respected for his flair, precise left foot, and technical prowess on the ball.

Though his time with the Super Eagles was brief due to fierce competition for spots in the squad, Waobikeze made a lasting impact in the Nigerian domestic football scene. He featured for several notable clubs, including Sharks FC of Port Harcourt, BCC Lions of Gboko, and Iwuanyanwu Nationale, now known as Heartland FC. His performances earned him admiration from fans and fellow players alike.

Known for his humility and discipline on and off the pitch, Waobikeze earned the nickname ‘Babaoo’ from fans who were drawn to his energetic style of play and calm demeanor. His contributions to local football development and his dedication to the game have been remembered fondly across the Nigerian football community.

The confirmation of his passing came through his brother, Eli Waobikeze, who made the announcement via a heartfelt Facebook post on Monday. According to the statement, Allen passed away peacefully at 7:34 p.m. CST. The family expressed deep gratitude to everyone who supported them with prayers, calls, and visits during Allen’s final days.

Funeral arrangements are currently being made and will be communicated in due course. The Waobikeze family has asked for continued prayers and support as they prepare to lay their beloved Allen to rest. His legacy, especially in the Nigerian football landscape, will be remembered with reverence and respect.
