Kayode Ojo, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) figure in Ekiti State, has urged governors from the South-West to formally endorse President Bola Tinubu as the sole presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.
Ojo dismissed the political alliance forming under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as insignificant and posing no real threat to President Tinubu’s second-term ambitions. He highlighted the Federal Government’s recent efforts to improve Nigerians’ lives—particularly in areas like Compressed Natural Gas vehicle initiatives, infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, youth empowerment, the student loan scheme, and technical training.
He emphasized that Tinubu, being a democrat, welcomes robust opposition, noting that such coalitions could help the administration refine and implement the Renewed Hope Agenda more effectively. According to Ojo, the widespread support Tinubu continues to enjoy across the nation, including from some factions within the opposition People’s Democratic Party, makes a South-West endorsement rally timely and necessary.
“All South-West governors, regardless of party affiliations, should unite in organizing a solidarity rally endorsing President Tinubu as the region’s consensus candidate—just as we’ve seen in other parts of the country,” he stated.
Ojo also commended Tinubu for creating the South-West Development Commission and urged the people of the region to leverage the initiative for regional progress. He called for greater backing of the President to ensure continued development and national growth.
