President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, received the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina, following his death in London on Sunday at the age of 82.

The late President’s body arrived aboard a flight from the United Kingdom, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima and a delegation of senior Federal Government officials. On hand to receive them were President Tinubu, Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda, members of the Federal Executive Council, and Buhari’s family members.

Buhari, who led Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, passed away after a brief illness while undergoing medical treatment abroad. His burial is scheduled to take place later today (Tuesday) in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic traditions.

A formal reception ceremony was conducted by military officials and Islamic clerics, while a somber atmosphere enveloped Katsina as mourners, including political figures, traditional rulers, and citizens, gathered to honor the late statesman’s legacy.

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu was also present at the airport, and a nine-member presidential committee had earlier been constituted to coordinate the funeral arrangements.

Dignitaries from across Nigeria and representatives of the international community are expected to attend the funeral rites in Daura.
