Six Armed Robbery Suspects Killed in Gun Duel with Delta Police

Six suspected armed robbers have been confirmed dead following a violent exchange of gunfire with operatives of the Delta State Police Command.

Two other suspects, who sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter, are currently receiving treatment at a medical facility.

According to a statement issued by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the confrontation occurred on July 9, 2025, at approximately 8:35 a.m., during a sting operation along the Patani-Ughelli expressway, near the Unenurhie axis in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

The police team raided a suspected criminal hideout targeting known individuals including Solomon Danisco, alias Picolo; Nelson Jacob; Oruma Saturday; Olise Jude; Precious Urhobowin; and Whisky Rufus, also known as Asawana, who hails from Ewu community.

“During the raid, the suspects, who were heavily armed, engaged the operatives in a fierce gun battle,” the statement read. “Several of them sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the hospital, where six were confirmed dead, while two others remain under medical care.”

Police recovered four locally-fabricated firearms and 19 live cartridges from the scene.
