The Abia State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with criminal conspiracy and armed robbery during a raid on a hideout along the Uturu/Isuikwuato axis.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the raid followed credible intelligence about a gang of suspected armed robbers terrorizing students of Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), and local residents.
Acting on the tip-off, operatives from the Uturu Divisional Police Headquarters, in collaboration with community members and led by the Divisional Police Officer, stormed the criminal hideout and apprehended four male suspects identified as Jerry Chisom, Tochukwu Ugula, Chinonso Nwankwo, and Kingsley Onyekeba.
The operation also led to the recovery of key exhibits, including a locally made pistol, a knife, an iPhone 7 Plus, an Infinix phone, and a laptop.
DSP Chinaka stated that investigations are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang who are currently at large.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, while commending the efforts of the officers and the support from local residents, called on the public to maintain active cooperation with law enforcement agencies. He urged citizens to report any suspicious individuals or activities through the Command’s emergency lines: 08035415405, 08079210004, 08079210005, and 08079210006.
In addition to the arrests, the Command said it has intensified raids along the Uturu/Isuikwuato corridor and dismantled other criminal camps in a bid to restore peace and security in the area.
