Manchester United have strengthened their squad ahead of the 2025/2026 Premier League season with the acquisitions of Brian Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. Now, the club is turning its attention to Leicester City and Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, according to Soccernet.ng.

United have reportedly initiated personal talks with the 28-year-old Nigerian, who has become a fan favourite at Leicester City, winning the FA Cup, Community Shield, and EFL Championship during his time at the club. Following Leicester’s relegation from the Premier League, Ndidi is eager to remain at the top level and has attracted interest from clubs across Germany, Italy, Spain, and England.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is looking to bring in a seasoned defensive midfielder, and Ndidi has emerged as a strong candidate. Former players and staff at Old Trafford have endorsed the move, noting Ndidi’s work rate, experience, and versatility as major assets.

Despite signing Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte last season, United are reportedly not satisfied with his adaptation to the Premier League, prompting their pursuit of Ndidi. The Nigerian is available for just £9 million due to a relegation clause in his contract.

As per reports from Caught Offside, United are confident of reaching an agreement on personal terms before making a formal approach to Leicester. If the transfer goes through, Ndidi would become only the second Nigerian to play for Manchester United, following Odion Ighalo.

With his ability to cover both midfield and defensive roles and a relatively low transfer fee, Ndidi presents a cost-effective and experienced option for Amorim’s side heading into the new season.
