The foremost Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has strongly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for sidelining the South-East and South-South regions in the recent reconstitution of federal parastatal boards.

In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, Ohanaeze described the appointments as a breach of national equity and a clear violation of the Federal Character Principle outlined in the Nigerian Constitution.

“We are deeply troubled by the blatant exclusion of capable individuals from the South-East and South-South in the new appointments to the boards of key national institutions such as the Bank of Industry,” the statement read. “These agencies play crucial roles in driving Nigeria’s economic transformation and should reflect the nation’s diversity.”

Ohanaeze urged President Tinubu to correct what it called a “redeemable imbalance” to foster national unity and fairness. “We call on Mr. President to act swiftly to rectify this disparity in the spirit of justice, equity, and inclusivity,” the organization added.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Ohanaeze lauded President Tinubu and the National Assembly for approving the South East Investment Company (SEIC), a financial and developmental entity under the South East Development Commission (SEDC).

Speaking on behalf of the group, President General Senator Azuta Mbata described the initiative as a crucial milestone in the economic revival of the South-East.

“We welcome the establishment of SEIC, which presents a valuable opportunity to attract private investments, boost regional competitiveness, and spur industrialization,” Senator Mbata stated. He further emphasized the need for transparent and professional management of the SEIC to ensure its long-term success.

Ohanaeze reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement with the federal government, while continuing to push for fair representation and sustainable development across all regions of Nigeria.
