The Abia State Government has approved the establishment of a large-scale, CSS-type integrated farming model to boost food production and promote youth participation in agribusiness.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Kanu explained that the initiative is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen food security and replicate the successful CSS Farms model from Nasarawa State within Abia. He recalled that 302 young Abians were previously trained at CSS Farms in Nasarawa and empowered to start agricultural ventures.
“Now we are bringing that initiative home. When fully established, the integrated farm will not only boost Abia’s food production capacity but also serve as a training hub for youths interested in agriculture and agribusiness,” Kanu stated.
He revealed that over 80% of the beneficiaries from the first phase of the training have successfully utilized the funds provided and trained at least three other farmers
