The Abia State Police Command has arrested the site engineer responsible for the uncompleted three-storey building that collapsed over the weekend in Umuahia.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, while briefing journalists at the Government House, Umuahia, on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti.

According to Kanu, the collapsed structure was located in the Low-Cost Housing area of the state capital. Although no lives were lost, three individuals sustained injuries and received prompt medical attention from the Health Commissioner and his team.

“The site engineer has been arrested and is currently assisting the police with their investigation,” Kanu said.

He further noted that despite the ongoing rainy season, the state’s road infrastructure drive is progressing steadily. He revealed that construction and maintenance works are ongoing at 51 locations across the state, with three projects completed and five new ones recently initiated.

The completed projects include repairs on the failed sections of Akanu Ibiam–Ohafia Road, maintenance of Eket Street–Niger Road via Calabar Street in Umu
