The Nigerian Army has intensified its nationwide counter-terrorism operations, neutralising scores of terrorists, arresting 15 suspects, and recovering arms, ammunition, and military gear across multiple locations.
A credible military source at Army Headquarters disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that troops remain fully committed to dismantling terrorist networks and curbing criminal activity across the country’s various operational theatres.
In Borno State, troops of the 151 Task Force Battalion ambushed and killed a terrorist in the Sabsawa area of Bama Local Government Area. An AK-47 rifle loaded with 28 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition was recovered during the encounter.
Similarly, troops of the 192 Battalion neutralised another terrorist along the Pulka, Ngoshe road in Gwoza LGA, also recovering an AK-47 rifle. Blood trails at the scene suggested additional, unconfirmed casualties among the enemy.
The source further revealed that five family members of terrorists affiliated with ISWAP and Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad (JAS), two adult women and three children, surrendered to troops at Banki Junction in Bama LGA after fleeing Bula Daloye village.
In a separate operation, troops from the 50 Task Force Battalion and the 134 Special Forces Battalion recovered two artillery shells during an ambush along the Marte, Dikwa route in Dikwa LGA.
Outside the North-East, troops also made arrests in Lagos and Abuja. In Lagos State, personnel of the 9 Brigade apprehended 12 impostors dressed in military uniforms, falsely claiming to be officers and cadets of a non-existent corps at Ojota.
In Abuja, Operation SWEEP operatives arrested another suspect wearing woodland camouflage in the Waru area of the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
In the South-East, troops of the 145 Battalion arrested two suspected cultists in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State. Items recovered from the suspects include two locally made pistols, six cartridges, and other materials.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and security nationwide, urging the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and credible information.
