Dubai, Sunday, The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a significant milestone in its ongoing efforts to improve traffic flow and road infrastructure across the emirate, with the development of a major section of Umm Suqeim Street.
The project, part of the broader Dubai Metro Blue Line development, includes a newly constructed 800-metre-long underpass at the intersection of Umm Suqeim Street and Al Barsha South Street, near Kings’ School. The tunnel features four lanes in each direction and is complemented by a signalised surface-level intersection to further ease congestion.
RTA Director General Mattar Al Tayer described the upgrade as a “strategic development,” noting that it enhances connectivity between east-west and north-south road networks. “The Umm Suqeim Street development extends 4.6km from Al Khail Road to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road. It is a key part of our plan to enhance mobility across Dubai,” he said.
The underpass is also part of the broader Umm Suqeim-Al Qudra corridor upgrade, which spans 16km from Jumeirah Street to Emirates Road. The corridor is expected to significantly ease traffic pressure and improve road capacity along one of Dubai’s busiest stretches.
While the RTA has warned of potential traffic disruptions during the final stages of the Blue Line project, authorities have assured residents that measures are in place to manage flow and minimise inconvenience.
The RTA continues to invest in infrastructure to meet the demands of a growing population and support Dubai’s long-term urban mobility goals.
