“You Do Not Write Your Life with Words, But with Action”

It would be unfair, and indeed, unjust, not to recognize the sincere efforts and vocal advocacy of individuals like the Distinguished Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, whose voice has resonated with concern over the plight of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu (MNK). However, in the midst of rising national tension and divided opinion, one name continues to echo with unwavering consistency, resolute determination, and exceptional moral courage, Hon. Obi Aguocha.

Hon. Aguocha has emerged not merely as a supporter but as a relentless advocate and unflinching ally in the campaign for MNK’s release. His actions exemplify the profound truth in the words of poet and philosopher Patrick Ness, who wrote in A Monster Calls, “You do not write your life with words. You write it with action.” Hon. Aguocha has embodied this ideal, choosing deeds over rhetoric, diplomacy over spectacle, and purposeful engagement over passive lamentation.

Demonstrating true leadership and strategic foresight, Hon. Aguocha initiated a critical tripartite dialogue involving three major stakeholders: His Excellency, the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives; the Director of the State Security Services (DSS); and himself. This high-level engagement was characterized by maturity, civility, mutual respect, and a sense of brotherhood and wisdom. At the core of these discussions was not only the immediate fate of MNK, but also the broader imperative of national unity, healing, and justice.

Taking his advocacy further, Hon. Aguocha embarked on another strategic initiative, private discussions with the Attorney-General of the Federation as well as the Chief of Staff to the President. These meetings, though largely behind closed doors, were reportedly anchored on exploring a viable political solution to a deeply complex issue. A solution that would avoid the binaries of victor and vanquished, and instead be rooted in respect, reconciliation, and national harmony.

What makes Hon. Aguocha’s role especially significant is his persistent appeal to the letter and spirit of Section 174 of the Nigerian Constitution, an often-cited legal provision that provides room for prerogative and discretion in matters of public interest. By highlighting this constitutional pathway, he is not merely seeking legal closure, but also a morally defensible and politically sustainable resolutio, one that places the nation’s interest above personal or partisan considerations.

In a time where many choose silence or safe neutrality, Hon. Obi Aguocha stands out as a statesman of rare conviction, a public servant who understands that leadership is measured not by words spoken in comfort, but by actions taken in times of adversity. His chapter in MNK’s odyssey may well be remembered as one of the most courageous and consequential in the broader struggle for justice, peace, and national cohesion.
