Akwa Ibom Police Probe Murder of Man Found Dead in Church

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched an investigation into the shocking death of a 45-year-old man, Mr. Udeme Sunday Uko, who was found dead in a church in Ukanafun Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at a church in Ikot Oku Usung village. The victim, his wife, and children were sleeping inside the church when a gunshot was heard. Uko was later discovered with a fatal gunshot wound to the head, raising suspicions of either suicide or a targeted attack.

The police were alerted by concerned citizens after the victim’s wife reported the incident. A team of officers swiftly arrived at the scene, where a locally made pistol was recovered as evidence. The deceased’s body has been moved to the mortuary for an autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has ordered a thorough and expedited investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the death and bring the perpetrators to justice. The police assured the public that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure a swift resolution to the case.
