Washington, D.C. In a bold announcement from the Oval Office on Friday, President Donald Trump indicated that Chicago will be the next city to receive his administration’s focus in its ongoing effort to combat crime. The president also suggested an expanded and intensified campaign in the nation’s capital.*

“We’ll straighten that one out, probably next. That will be our next one after this,” Trump stated, referring to plans for Chicago. “I think Chicago will be our next, and then we’ll help with New York.”

Trump’s remarks come in the wake of a federal takeover of the Washington, D.C. police force and the deployment of the National Guard, measures he credits with contributing to a reduction in crime. The president highlighted a recent week-long period in which the capital recorded no murders, calling it a “miracle,” even as similar stretches have been noted multiple times throughout the year.

As the administration gears up for its next steps, it remains focused on implementing strategies aimed at reducing crime in major urban areas across the country.
