Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to justice, security, and unity across the state, announcing plans to recruit over 1,000 youths into the community policing outfit, Operation Rainbow.

The governor made this pledge on Sunday during the 2025/2026 Legal Year Mass at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Jos. The service, attended by judges, clergy, and lawyers, marked the official opening of the judiciary’s calendar.

Mutfwang praised judicial officers for their resilience despite numerous challenges and assured them of improved welfare. He disclosed that his government had begun settling outstanding entitlements of retired judges and pledged to complete the process.

He also urged judicial officers to exercise discretion wisely, warning that its abuse would burden their conscience. On security, the governor announced the imminent recruitment of youths into Operation Rainbow to serve as community defenders complementing conventional security agencies, stressing the need to resist those who profit from insecurity.

Speaking on unity, he emphasised the importance of Christian solidarity for Plateau’s progress, while reiterating his resolve to govern with courage, transparency, and accountability.

In his homily, Parish Priest of St. Theresa’s, Very Rev. Fr. Paul Pam, urged Christians to anchor their lives in Christ, pursue righteousness, and pray for leaders to find solutions to the nation’s challenges. He commended Governor Mutfwang for his peacebuilding and development efforts.

Chief Judge of Plateau State, Justice David Mann, also expressed gratitude for divine preservation of the judiciary and prayed for wisdom and protection in the new legal year.
