The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has called off its strike following a peace agreement brokered by the Federal Government between the union and the Dangote Group.
PENGASSAN President, Festus Osifo, announced the suspension at a press briefing after an emergency meeting of the union’s National Executive Council. He said the decision was taken to allow the implementation of agreed terms, particularly the absorption of sacked refinery workers, and to acknowledge government’s efforts in resolving the dispute.
Minister of Labour and Employment, Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, confirmed that the Dangote Group agreed to unionize its workforce and reassign disengaged employees to other companies within the group without loss of pay. He assured that no worker would be victimized for their role in the crisis.
The federal government’s intervention team included the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Labour and Employment, Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi; Finance Minister, Wale Edun; Budget and Economic Planning Minister, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; Director-General of DSS, Adeola Ajayi; and DG of NIA, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
