The Chairman of the Niger State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Bulus Yohanna, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently address the insecurity plaguing the country and take decisive steps to reduce soaring food prices.

Yohanna, who is also the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, made the appeal on Thursday in his Independence Day message to mark Nigeria’s 65th anniversary. He urged Nigerians to entrust the nation and its leaders into God’s hands, seeking divine intervention in overcoming insecurity and economic hardship.

“As a body, CAN believes that although the challenges are enormous, they are surmountable. By the grace of God, there will be light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.

The CAN leader further appealed to President Tinubu to focus on stabilising the economy, curbing banditry, and ensuring the protection of lives and property, particularly in communities ravaged by insecurity.

“Mr. President, as you plan to boost the economy, Nigerians look forward to rising trade, falling food prices, reduced inflation, a stronger currency, and healthier external reserves,” he added.

While congratulating Governor Mohammed Bago and the people of Niger State on the country’s 65th independence anniversary, Yohanna urged residents to intensify prayers for peace, unity, and prosperity. He also encouraged the governor to remain steadfast in his New Niger Agenda to improve security and livelihoods.

The CAN chairman reminded Christians not to dwell only on the negatives but to remain grateful to God for preserving Nigeria as one nation despite its many challenges.
