Umuahia, Nigeria, October 2, 2025 – The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Abia State Wing, will on Sunday, October 5, 2025, join teachers across Nigeria and around the world to celebrate the annual World Teachers’ Day. This year’s theme is “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” with the sub-theme “Together for Teachers, Together for Tomorrow.”
The event is designed to celebrate teachers’ successes, highlight their challenges, and promote policies that support collaboration, peer mentoring, teamwork, and professional development, while sustaining teacher professionalism and excellence in learning.
The Abia State programme of activities will feature:
Keynote lectures on the global theme. Professional development sessions. Recognition of outstanding teachers. A colourful march-past by teachers from all Local Government Areas.
In addition, 24 teachers from Abia will participate in the national celebration at Eagles Square, Abuja, where His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, Executive Governor of Abia State, will be honoured with a Golden Award of Excellence for Education and Teacher Friendliness. The award recognizes his remarkable commitment to education in Abia State, including the allocation of 20% of the 2025 state budget to education, the recruitment of over 5,300 teachers, and numerous other achievements.
Speaking ahead of the celebration, the union saluted Governor Otti as a “teacher-friendly governor” for his steady investment in education and infrastructure. The union also affirmed that Abia State, “God’s Own State”, continues to grow in educational excellence.
The Abia State event will hold at the NUT New Teachers’ House, Secretariat, Ogurube Layout, near the State House of Assembly, Umuahia, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
