Super Eagles goalkeeper Kayode Bankole has completed a transfer to South African Premiership club TS Galaxy, ending his five-year stint with Nigeria’s Remo Stars.
A source close to the player confirmed the move to PUNCH Sports Extra on Thursday, revealing that the deal was finalised earlier in the day after Bankole signed his contract with the Mpumalanga-based side.
Bankole, who began his senior career with Remo Stars in 2020, leaves as the club’s longest-serving goalkeeper. His contract expired at the close of the 2024/25 season, and he was among five players released in August as the Sky Blue Stars reshaped their squad.
Also departing were Sikiru Alimi, Frank Mawuena, Seun Ogunribide, and Fabian Nworie, while captain Junior Nduka exited after the season had begun. Their exits left a leadership gap, now temporarily filled by defender Adedayo Olamilekan, last season’s club MVP, who has taken on the armband on an interim basis.
Bankole saw limited action last season, losing his starting role to Benin Republic’s Serge Obassa, but his pedigree as a former Super Eagles invitee made him an attractive option for Galaxy as they bolstered their squad.
Founded in 2015 and owned by Tim Sukazi, TS Galaxy have risen steadily in South African football since earning promotion to the topflight. Their recent league finishes include 9th, 13th, 10th, 6th and 5th, and they currently sit 8th after six matches this season.
Galaxy will next face ORBIT College in the South African League Cup on Saturday before resuming Premiership duty against Magesi on October 18, following the international break.
