Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has been commended for his outstanding commitment to women’s empowerment, gender-inclusive governance, and equitable political participation across Nigeria.
The Director-General of the Kaduna State Public Procurement Authority (KADPPA), Sanusi Yero, made this known during a press briefing in Kaduna on Wednesday, noting that the governor’s inclusive policies have earned him multiple national recognitions and awards.
Yero recalled that at the recently concluded 9th Voice of Women Conference and Awards in Abuja, KADPPA won the “Government Agency Supporting Women and Their Families” award, crediting the achievement to Governor Sani’s visionary leadership.
“Indeed, His Excellency has shown the political will, institutional backing, and policy direction that made this recognition possible,” Yero stated.
According to him, Kaduna State under Governor Sani became the first subnational government in Nigeria to adopt a Gender-Responsive Procurement Policy, designed to promote women’s participation in the economy by ensuring fair access to public contracts.
He explained that the policy offers both financial and reservation benefits to women-owned businesses in line with global best practices.
“KADPPA has waived all registration fees for women-owned businesses, while non-refundable tender fees have been reduced by 50 percent,” Yero said. “Similarly, registration fees with other government agencies have also been cut by half for women-owned enterprises.”
Yero further noted that the policy reserves 20 percent of all goods contracts, 10 percent of consulting contracts, and 5 percent of works contracts for women-owned firms. In cases where bids are unresponsive, women-led businesses are given priority during relaunch.
To ensure effective implementation, he added that KADPPA has established a dedicated Gender-Responsive Department, while all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies now have Gender Desk Officers to monitor compliance.
He described Sani’s administration as one committed to “dismantling systemic barriers against women through affirmative action and institutional reforms.”
“The Kaduna State Government, through KADPPA, is honored by this recognition and remains steadfast in advancing women’s empowerment in line with Governor Sani’s vision for an inclusive Kaduna,” Yero concluded.
