Victor Boniface Prioritizes Fitness and Team Success in Bid to Revive Werder Bremen Form

Victor Boniface, the Bayer Leverkusen forward currently on loan at Werder Bremen, has revealed that his main goal for the 2025/26 season is to stay fit and regain his form.

The 24-year-old joined Werder Bremen on transfer deadline day but has struggled to settle in. Now in his third season in the German Bundesliga, Boniface has yet to replicate the outstanding numbers from his debut campaign at Leverkusen.

In the 2023/24 season, he scored 14 goals and provided eight assists in 24 league matches, helping Leverkusen secure the Bundesliga title with an unbeaten record. Injuries, however, have hampered his progress since then, something he is determined to overcome this season.

“For me, personally, my goal is to try to play the whole season without injury,” Boniface told SABC Sports. “When I signed here, I made it clear I don’t set strict personal targets — I just go with the flow. My priority is to help the team, score goals if I can, and play an injury-free season while the team achieves positive results. We’ll see how it goes.”

So far, Boniface has registered two assists in eight appearances, but he insists that his focus remains on the collective success of the team.

“Football is like life — sometimes you have good moments, sometimes bad,” he said. “The key is finding the right way forward. It’s not just about me scoring; it’s about the team’s results. I’d rather help the team win, and then the goals will come naturally.”

Having also lost his place in the Super Eagles, Boniface hopes to use the upcoming international break to regroup ahead of Werder Bremen’s trip to Leipzig. The club currently sits eighth in the Bundesliga with 15 points from 10 games.
