Rivers State University (RSU) has suspended academic activities at its Emohua satellite campus following the abduction of five students by gunmen suspected to be cultists. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when the assailants stormed an off-campus hostel in the Rumuche/Rumuohia community of Emohua Local Government Area and forcibly took the students away.

Reacting to the development, the Vice Chancellor of the institution ordered an immediate halt to lectures on the affected campus to ensure the safety of students and allow security agencies to intensify rescue operations. The attack caused panic among students and residents, with many temporarily vacating the area for fear of further violence.

Security agencies later confirmed that the five abducted students were rescued safely during a coordinated operation involving the police and other security personnel working in collaboration with local community members. The students have since been reunited with their families.

Meanwhile, authorities have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators believed to be responsible for the attack. Officials have also assured the public that steps are being taken to strengthen security around the campus to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
