The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Enugu, Venerable Samuel Ike, has sharply criticised Nigeria’s national leadership, accusing the current leaders of corruption and a lack of integrity.

During a church service on Sunday, Bishop Ike described the nation’s leaders as “bereft of political principles,” suggesting that they prioritise their own interests, those of their families, and close associates over the welfare of the country.

In a video that went viral on Monday, the Bishop noted that many political figures, including those at the presidency, are already focused on campaigning for the 2027 elections, despite the country grappling with serious challenges. He stated, “Many, including those in the presidency, are already campaigning for re-election, even amidst national crises like insecurity, jihadist attacks, Christian-targeted violence, high living costs, and multiple taxation. Their leadership is largely devoid of character and integrity.”

While he was critical of federal leaders, Bishop Ike encouraged citizens to support progress and good governance at the state level. He praised the Enugu State Government for its achievements in infrastructure and urban development, noting the 1.62 trillion Naira budget dedicated to sustaining the state’s growth.

He added, “Our governor has played a key role in political and governance reforms. We thank God for the progress we see in roads, urban re-engineering, and the overall development momentum in Enugu.”
