Armed bandits who abducted 14 people — including a church pastor and six children — from a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State have issued a 48‑hour ultimatum to the victims’ families. The kidnappers are demanding a ransom of ₦200 million, down from an initial ₦500 million demand, and have warned of unspecified “consequences” if their terms are not met.
The attack took place during a church service on November 30, when the gunmen stormed the congregation and forced the worshippers into the bush. Among those taken were infants as young as three weeks and four months old.
Families and community members have expressed mounting anxiety as the deadline approaches, with relatives appealing to Kogi State authorities to intensify efforts to secure the release of the hostages. A video circulating on social media shows distressed relatives pleading for government intervention and highlighting the grave situation faced by those in captivity.
Officials have yet to provide detailed updates on rescue operations, even as local residents urge swift action to prevent further harm to the abducted worshippers.
