Senator Chris Ngige, former Governor of Anambra State and ex-Minister of Labour and Employment, has reportedly been taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at his Abuja residence on Justice Mohammed Bello Street. The exact reasons for the detention remain unclear, and the EFCC has yet to make an official statement.

Early reports led to speculation that Ngige had been kidnapped, but sources now confirm that the operation was conducted by the EFCC. A source familiar with the arrest revealed that Ngige was “humiliated during the operation,” stressing that it was a lawful enforcement action rather than an abduction.

Ngige’s former media aide, Fred Chukwuelobe, confirmed the arrest, stating that the former governor is in EFCC custody and promising further updates on the matter.

The detention follows a recent attack on Ngige’s convoy in Anambra State, which left a police officer dead and several others injured. Ngige was not in the vehicle at the time of the ambush.

This is not the first time the former governor has experienced such dramatic incidents. In 2003, he was abducted during his tenure as Anambra State governor in a highly publicized case that drew national attention.
